"allusions to Chinese calligraphy connect with a subtle use of mixed media, resulting in a work that is both historical and immediate."
--- Studio Visit Magazine
Zelene Jiang Schlosberg is a Chinese-born artist living and working in Chicago. Her art mingles Western and Eastern elements in subtle provocative ways.
NUE Magazine featured and published Zelene's work and essay in its Fall 2015 edition. In a preview of that edition, the magazine commented that Zelene "uses line to express multitudes in her complex mixed media paintings." Zelene's work "Hint" was featured in Studio Visit Magazine volume 31, juried by Mary M. Tinti, Curator at The Fitchburg Art Museum in Massachusetts. She was one of the featured artists at CICA Museum (South Korea), in an international exhibition held in May 2019.
Being in a family of musicians, her work displays a special affinity towards and alliance with the contemporary art music community. She was the solo featured visual artist in CHICAGO: An Artist Celebration (2015), curated by the Chicago Arts Orchestra, and the Grammy-nominated Spektral Quartet chose a painting of hers for a musical improvisation in 2018. Her painting “Directions #0” was featured on the cover of composer John Liberatore's 2018 debut CD album, "Line Drawings” (Albany Records). She graduated from Beijing Normal University with a master’s degree in 2001.
She works with Woldt Gallery, London.
